Following the success of the two weeks of Year 10 work experience placements, on Tuesday 17th July, the businesses involved were invited by the students to visit the school for a tour and then to stay for lunch with them.
It was fantastic to see the students interacting with their employers throughout the visit. They all showed real maturity, respect and were obviously extremely grateful for the time spent on placement. The staff of the local businesses involved had nothing but praise for the students that were with them on work experience. Sam Marshal of the British Army (9 Regiment Army Air Corps) said “It was a pleasure to have Liam Milton and Conor Barley with us on work experience and both boys seemed to enjoy their time”. Whilst Andrew Bleasby of RMB Toyota, Northallerton, said “Joe Shuttleworth was very good and adapted well to all situations. He is a credit to the School”.
Ms Simpson (Deputy Head Teacher) would like to give an enormous thank you to all Business Friends of Thirsk School for supporting all of our students on the work experience placements. A special thank you to all those who accepted the students invitation to come to the school, go on a tour and stay for lunch. We felt it was a real success and will be repeating this each year after work experience.
The tour and lunch was the start of developing a new initiative of the school, Business Friends of Thirsk School & Sixth Form College, which is to encourage closer relationships between the School and local businesses. A huge number of local businesses have for years supported Thirsk School & Sixth Form College, be it through supporting Work Experience placements, by involvement in Enterprise Projects, allowing visits to their business, providing mentors or sponsoring other activities within School. The School would like to build upon the success of this and work to provide greater understanding between the School and local businesses in the community.
