    Engineering

In KS4 Engineering we study the following :

    • participating in a range of specific learning tasks
    • covering a wide range engineering skills centering on the production of an engineering test piece
    • bench work- fitting
    • milling
    • lathe work
    • foundry work
    • CNC lathe work
    • CNC Milling
    • becoming active, independent learners and developing a secure understanding of the techniques and skills necessary for the production of quality engineered solutions

    Assessment :

    • assessment is in line with the criteria outlined in the subject specification and graded pass, merit or distinction

    Units of work include:

    • interpreting information
    • health and Safety
    • manufacturing techniques
    • the engineered world

These form the basis of the award  together with an overarching attention to:

    • accuracy and precision
    • quality finish
    • verbal and written feed back and the assessment will be undertaken by staff and external moderators
    • essentially there are units of written work be presented and submitted for internal assessment,  practical pieces to be completed and submitted for internal assessment and two externally assessed tests, an on line multiple choice examination and a written paper

    Learning beyond the classroom :

    • using extra curricular time throughout the course in order to complete project
    • using available dedicated lunchtime sessions which are held throughout the year
    • taking an interest in the world of engineering
    • thinking about what they see in the world about them, how has it been created, why has it been created and what are the environmental implications of its production
    • being aware of engineering advancement
    • being aware of historic advancement
