Exam Access Arrangements
Mrs Elliott assesses students for exam access arrangements. She is registered with the exam board as a specialist teacher and can apply for permission for access arrangements where permission is needed such as for a reader, scribe or extra time.
Mrs Elliott conducts formal assessments of students reading, spelling and handwriting skills towards the end of year 9 and beginning of year 10. Assessment scores that are used to apply for access arrangements must be dated within 2 years of final GCSE exams so are not routinely carried out before that time. She will typically assess 40-50 students in year 9 who may have had previously identified problems with the acquisition of fluent literacy skills or who have had individual literacy intervention. Students can also be referred for assessment by their class teacher, by a parent, or by self referral.
Access arrangements should represent the students normal way of working so it important to establish prior to entry in year 6 if students may benefit from the use of access arrangements during internal tests and assessments in years 7 - 9. This information is gathered from year 6 class teachers as part of our primary induction process. Standardised reading tests are also conducted in the summer term of year 6 to establish each students reading age on transfer into year 7.
