    Food Technology

    In KS3 Food technology we study the following :
    • food preparation
    • nutrition and menu planning
    • cooking and presentation
    • food and ingredients from different cultures
    • how to create and design products to meet a design brief
    • how to prepare food and manage timings effectively

    Assessment :

    • peer and self-assessment are key to progress, students must be able to evaluate their own and each other’s work
    • students are assessed in both their written work and the production of their practical design ideas
    • every student is assessed at the end of each unit of work
    • informal assessment in continual throughout lessons

    Learning beyond the classroom :

    • reading around meal planning and preparation will aid student's knowledge and understanding of the subject
    • preparing for practical lessons, maybe even rehearsing dishes at home
    • research around food and culture in newspapers, magazines, supermarkets and recipe books
