    In KS4 German we study the following : 

    • developing an understanding of key grammatical structures and learning to apply them in speaking and written work
    • developing the ability to listen to, speak, read and write German within the context of a wide variety of topics, including those below
    • studying topics from the German textbooks Echo and Logo
    • myself and family
    • hobbies and leisure time
    • holidays
    • the media - TV, newspapers, IT, advertising
    • the environment
    • relationships
    • social problems such as unemployment, addiction and racism

    Assessment : 

    • assessment follows the AQA GCSE specification
    • in year 10 (April) students do a speaking test (15% of the GCSE)
    • in year 10 (June) students do a written controlled assessment (15% of the GCSE)
    • in year 10 students do a listening and reading exam (July)
    • in year 11 (November/December) students do a written controlled assessment (15% of the GCSE)
    • in year 11 (December) Mock listening and reading exam
    • in year 11 (March) students do a speaking test (15% of the GCSE)
    • May/June GCSE listening and reading exams (40% of the GCSE)

    Learning beyond the classroom :

    • participating in the German exchange
    • revising extra vocabulary from the green vocabulary book
    • accessing extra listening and reading material from the shared area on the network
    • using Quizlet to revise vocabulary
