    KS4 GCSE

    In KS4 Music we study the following topics : 

    • music in the western classical tradition
    • popular music of the 20th & 21st centuries
    • world Music
    • developing solo performance skills
    • ensemble performance skills
    • composition skills
    • listening to music critically

    Assessment :

    GCSE Course (Exam Board AQA)

    • Unit 1 (listening) is assessed by a formal exam in the summer
    • Unit 2 (composition) is assessed externally
    • Unit 3 (performing) and Unit 4 (composition) are assessed internally by subject staff
    • on-going commitment to regular feedback through teacher assessment, as well as peer and self-assessment

    Learning beyond the classroom : 

    • listening to a broad range of music - this will not only help in the listening exam, but will also be useful when composing as it will develop our musical vocabulary
    • home learning tasks are given to prepare students for the controlled coursework elements of the course
    • taking part in extra-curricular ensembles of which there are lots of opportunities, and music-making can not only lead to opportunities for the performance exam, but will also develop musicality and the ability to hear music critically
