Thirsk School

& Sixth Form College

    School Service

The school service is on offer to all of our Sixth Form students and is an increasingly popular way to broaden experiences, enhance a C.V. and enjoy the wider benefits of our college. Through the scheme, students volunteer to help support a particular department, student or area of the school and contribute an hour or two per week. Students can support Upper or Lower School students in lessons within a particular department and this can lead to team teaching, mentoring and leadership opportunities. The physical education department appoint ‘PE Technicians’ who lead warm ups, support trips and officiate matches. As an example of the success of this particular part of school service, one of our students gained an unconditional offer at University to study sport such was the quality of the skills gained during their time at our Sixth Form. The opportunities are as diverse as working with our kitchen staff (for those interested in catering), our information technology technicians (for careers in IT), and a whole host of other sections of the school. The benefits to both our Sixth Form students and the whole school are obvious and this helps to generate the community feel that is evident throughout the college.
