    Textiles Technology

In KS3 Textiles Technology we study the following topics :

    • different fabrics and textiles techniques
    • textile methods, such as fabric printing, tie-dye, batik, spraying, transfer, fabric construction, stitching, felting and fabric manipulation
    • appropriate use of colour, shape, texture and pattern
    • how to work to a brief and how to put into practice our design ideas

    Assessment :

    • peer and self-assessment are key to progress, students must be able to evaluate their own and each other’s work
    • students are assessed in both their written work and the production of their practical design ideas
    • every student is assessed at the end of each unit of work
    • informal assessment is continual throughout lessons, both verbal and written

    Learning beyond the classroom :

    • reading around the subject using newspaper and magazine articles will help broaden their subject knowledge and aid the completion of their Textile design ideas
    • practice of clothing pattern completion and textile techniques would be useful
    • students should be regularly encouraged to complete homework as creatively as possible and apply these ideas when completing their project work
