Over 90% of students applying to University from our college get in and this is testimony to the huge amount of support that they get through the guidance program. Starting in year 12 we have visiting speakers and tasks set to increase awareness of what is on offer and this together with individual career appointments ensure that by the exams in year 12, our students are very aware of the next step.
On return from exams, our students have an enrichment day aimed at UCAS progression and are taken to the UCAS careers fair in Leeds. Personal statements are written during the summer term of year 12 and work experience together with University visits take place in fieldwork fortnight. This time is set aside for extra-curricular trips and events that support the broadening of horizons and personal statement preparation.
By the start of year 13 most students are well on their way to completing their application. Students are offered mock interviews and are skilled up by observing interviews in practice. On-going tutor interviews support them through to the acceptance of offers and this always proves to be a very rewarding experience for both the tutor and student.
Our strong link to Oxford and Cambridge is maintained with visits by their admissions tutors together with residential experiences for our students and by our continued partnership with Northumbria University. Our track record of getting students into the best Universities is something that we celebrate and it is certainly something that is appreciated by our students.
