early childhood development
The Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) in Early Childhood Development is for students who are interested in learning about the care and education of children ages 0-8years. This qualification is designed to be taken alongside other A Levels or AAQs.
The course supports you to develop skills and theoretical knowledge to work with young children. Students who study the Pearson BTEC in Early Childhood Development focus on the skills, knowledge and understanding that today’s universities and employers demand in preparation for further education or the workplace. If you are thinking of developing a career in the social care sector (such as becoming a social care worker, nursery nurse, nanny, teacher, or youth worker) then Early Childhood Development gives you the knowledge, and skills towards successful applications for these careers.
This content would complement A levels such as Psychology and English; as well as other AAQs such as Health and Social Care for those progressing to degrees in Childhood and Early Years Studies, or Social Work. Fifty percent of this course is exam and 50% is coursework. Taking part in work experience is compulsory whilst studying Early Childhood Development at Thirsk School and Sixth Form as it supports all units, but particularly unit 4 to be completed to a high standard.
